Uganda Museum Could Join Shemoni School

The Local media has been occupied with sad information on how the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, the mother industry under which the Uganda Museum falls has completed a master-plan to demolish the only national museum in the country to provide way for a 6o storeyed East Africa Trade Centre!  According to the reliable information, the museum land has been allocated to an "investor" who will elect a glass building that will house the Ministry of Tourism, have a world class trade centre and one of the levels will house the museum.

If this awkward move succeeds, it will be the biggest blow to the Uganda's heritage, culture, tradition and tourism. It should be noted that the museum houses Uganda's rich culture with artifacts some which are too delicate and cant stand a relocation since most of them are too old and are just being held together by bandage. Some experts who have visited the museum have advised that the artifacts cant stand the process of relocation considering their they condition. However, to the technocrats at the ministry, this was not convincing enough and have moved on with their move by placing press adverts calling for proposals to "develop" (demolish) the Uganda museum land the Uganda's top heritage keeper!

This is not the first time the government has sacrificed big social interests in the name of developing the land! In 2007, barely 8 months before CHOGM, the government hurriedly gave Shimon school land to an "investor" who was supposedly going to elect a five star hotel to host the visiting Heads of Governments in a period of less than seven months! The school was demolished, over 1000 pupils lost what they called a learning home and up to now, the land is still vacant after four years!

This madness of mismanaging government assets must be dealt with total iron approach. Those who have personalized national decisions should be held personally and be accountable for. There is no way such decisions can be taken with sober minds. All the land bonanzas are so fishy and many have argued (which is very true, as there would not be any other justification for this madness) that those who move those deals are beneficiaries of these insane corrupt moves. My friend was telling me how those who design such tax payers' costing deals after succeeding, meet investors in the evening for their tokens

May God help this country Uganda of state sponsored corruption that has become a borne cancer to this nation and may the Lord send the perpetuators of this evil to the hottest spot in hell.
